One of the most powerful actions we can all take on a daily or weekly basis is to develop the habit of continual learning about the environment, social issues and solutions.
Here are our top 3 reasons why committing to this action will make more of a difference than you might think:
1. More knowledge. more conversations, more action
The more we learn, the more confident we all become to speak up about the things that are important to us and that in turn leads to more conversations. Having lots of natural conversations about our concerns and what we can do to make a difference helps reinforce how normal it is for human beings to talk about things that keep our environment clean and beautiful and our societies centered on compassion and fairness.
2. When you stay awake, others will wake up
In the Symposium events that are run by Be The Change we talk about how easy it is to get caught up in the onslaught of marketing aimed at convincing us that buying and consuming things is the only way to grow a successful economy (the dream of the modern world). Even when we know these choices have enormous costs to the environment, equitable societies and even our own personal happiness. Continual learning and exploring alternate views helps us to stay awake and conscious of the decisions we make daily and how they relate to our personal values.
3. Positive attitudes are contagious
The great news is that despite all the doom and gloom, if you keep learning you will find many many positive stories about developments in renewable energy sources, communities working together for change and solutions to manage how we can live comfortably, happily AND sustainably. Feed yourself regularly with success and hope and share your positive stories with others.
